Favorite Documentaries On Netflix

I probably don’t have to tell you how amazing Netflix is before I delve into this post but just in case, I’ll tell you: “Netflix is AMAZING!”. OK, there, let’s continue.

Aside from a couple of fantastic shows, there are also some pretty amazing documentaries available to watch on Netflix and Vid and I have really been into documentaries lately so I wanted to share a couple of our favorites so far.

  1. Blackfish – We actually watched this for the first time last year and recently re-watched. It’s such an eyeopener and will change your perspective so much on animals in captivity. It’s a subject that comes up a lot at our house lately because Lara is really interested in animals and she’s been asking a lot of questions about how it work with zoos, aquariums and circuses even. Whether the animals are happy there etc. She hasn’t watched Blackfish yet because I’m a little concerned she might find it scary but we did watch a couple of other documentaries on the subject of oceans etc. with her.
  2. Virunga – I saw Virunga last year as well and thought it was one of the most important documentaries I’ve ever seen. It’s very intense but the work these rangers do to protect one of Africa’s oldest and most bio diverse national parks is truly remarkable. The documentary was produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.
  3. White Helmets – This is an Oscar winning documentary that was released last year, which talks about the volunteers (White Helmets), who go into the bomb wreckages and brave falling bombs in war torn Syria in order to save civilians. They are unarmed and go wherever is necessary to help people regardless their religion. It’s an incredibly poignant documentary that you just have to watch. You can support the White Helmets here.
  4. Mission Blue – This documentary follows marine biologist and oceanographer Sylvia Earle, who has dedicated her life to protecting oceans and educating the world on why we should care about what happens with them too. This is a documentary we watched with Lara and I think it just portrays the issues so brilliantly and it really sucked us all in and started some great discussions. Loved it!
  5. Lance Armstrong: Stop At Nothing – As you can imagine this is another interesting documentary to watch but compared to the others it’s a lot less intense and easier to get through. Still as Vid and I are both deeply connected to sports it sparked a lot of interesting conversations. It goes back to when Lance Armstrong was first starting out but it doesn’t just focus on him. I think it definitely brings to light the overall problem of doping in cycling.
  6. Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief – We watched this documentary after we go into a discussion on Scientology one evening with friends and someone had seen it already and told us to watch it. The testimonies in this documentaries are just insane and truly shocking. It’s interesting to explore the boundaries and criteria of what makes something a religion. Even if it feels completely cult-like!

Z Vidom zadnje čase malce spreminjava večerni program in namesto kakega filma raje pogledava kakšen zanimiv dokumentarec.

  1. Blackfish – Dokumentarec o kitu Tilikumu in problemu velikih spektakel-orientiranih akvarijev in zabaviščnih parkov kot so Seaworld sva si ogledala že lani in ponovno pred nekaj tedni.
  2. Virunga – Tale dokumentarec sem si prav tako prvič ogledala lani in pred kratkim spet. Je zelo intenziven vendar izredno zanimiv. Producent je Leo DiCaprio, ki ja konec lanskega leta naredil še en dokumentarec, ki mi je bil zelo všeč: Before The Flood.
Čudovit in izredno zanimiv film!
Kompliciriana tema in definitivno dokumentarec vreden ogleda.
  6. Going Clear: Scientology And The Prison Of Belief – Ta dokumentarec nama je priporočil prijatelj, ki si ga je že ogledal, saj je pred nekaj tedni tema pogovora na neki večerji nanesla na Scietologijo. Izpovedi bivših scientologov v tem filmu so absolutno neverjentne in šokantne. Ampak oglejte si in si ustvarite svoje mnenje.
