Sweet Dreams
Anyone else having trouble sleeping lately? I’ve been a really busy bee over the last few months and consequentially I’ve been having some trouble getting my shut-eye, or should I say, shutting off my brain parts at night. All the idea tossing, to-do lists, errands, little girls waking up in the middle of the night etc. have finally started to take a toll on me and I began waking up in the morning totally and utterly drained. You know that feeling when you wake up and you feel like you got zero rest? Yes, I’ve been experiencing that since, oh let’s say January! So, a little less than two weeks ago I embarked on serious sleeping/evening routine change in order to maximize my rest. Here are some of my tricks; they’re all totally natural, doable & affordable…
Usually, I do some work after I put my daughter to bed around 8.30PM but now I decided to cut my work evenings to only 3 a week. Maybe that’s still too much for some and if you can cut those out entirely that’s great but I have a little 2 year old and a day job so often the only time I get to do stuff is in the evening. Regardless, I did decide to cut it to 3 evenings a week only, which means I need to completely shut off on the other 4. This means, no email, no computer, no phone email checking, nothing. Total shut off. And honestly, not having my head full of blogging, ideas and things to do right before bed has been really helpful. It makes me calmer and decreases my chances of getting stressed out immediately after laying down. Instead, I read a book (when I’m alone) or I just hang out with the BF.
I’ve also cut out my occasional evening glass of wine. It might sound unbelievable but I feel the effects of a single glass of wine the next morning. It’s good in the evening because it makes me sleepy but I wake up really groggy in the morning (yes, only one glass I know. College seems like forever ago!). I’ve since replaced that glass with Pukka Night Time tea, which in my opinion is basically unbelievable. It calms me down and makes me sleepy but without all the icky side effects. Definitely worth a shot!
And last but not least, I also use this Deep Sleep pulse point balm from the Body Shop and let me tell you this baby is pretty good + it smells great without being overwhelming and it includes include Fair Trade ingredients such as organic chamomile water and shea butter, which obviously makes it even better.
I hope fellow insomniacs find this helpful…
P.S What are some of your good night’s sleep tricks? I’d love to hear what you’ve got up your sleeve…
